The Accessibility Abyss
Being online as a person with disabilities shouldn't mean falling into the digital accessibility abyss.
An estimated 17% of people are born with disabilities and, if we live long enough, nearly all of us will eventually have at least one disability.
What's a single thing you could do, or could ask companies you work with to do, to make websites, applications, or online services more accessible?
A few examples would be: ensuring multiple ways are offered for performing a function, providing a dark mode option, enabling people to reduce or turn off visual motion, putting emojis at the end rather than the beginning of a line of text, evaluating fonts and designs for contrast and readability, or providing alt text for images.
You might think digital accessibility doesn't matter, but each of us could suddenly find ourselves needing new ways to work, conduct personal business online, connect with others, and to participate in the digital world. Start making the online experience better for everyone today.
